Loss control is the active management of risk and hazards.

The loss control department for WCSIT & ISDA members provides a range of services to members that allows them to manage the total cost of risk to the school district. Improved loss ratios lead to lower premium costs.  Fewer accidents reduce the experience modification factor that drives Workman’s Compensation expenses.  We can help by providing the tools, expertise, and resources to effectively manage hazard exposure.

When districts work with the WCSIT & ISDA Loss Control department they reduce risk by identifying hazards and at-risk behaviors likely to cause an accident. 

Our training and educational resources include on-site training, video training resources, organization of safety teams, and development of risk management plans.

As a consultative resource our sole interest is providing assistance to WCSIT & ISDA members.  Our services come at no charge to members and are confidential in nature. 

Member Service Visit

This onsite hazard and risk identification/mitigation survey is the starting point for the loss control relationship.  We work within the districts resources to provide actionable improvements to safety, accident reporting, and training issues.

Post Loss Accident Investigation

Investigative services are provided when circumstances dictate additional investigation of facts is needed.  This is done to protect the district from repetitive claims involving the same root cause.  Investigative services can also provide needed information in situations of unusual or exceptional injury or loss. Investigative services help protect the district from unwarranted, exaggerated, or fraudulent claims.

Loss control training resources include live onsite training for employee groups on common workplace hazards.

The Loss Control channel is the source for Relevant, Timely, and Actionable information.  We provide email notification when new topics become available.

Regional safety meetings are organized for district safety leaders to receive information on best practices, hazard identification and avoidance and other loss reduction issues.

The Loss Control Department is often asked to examine accidents or hazards after a claim has been reported.  These efforts have proven to be effective in reducing injury costs to members.   

A post-accident investigation can identify circumstances that have not resulted in the claimed injury.  Fabrication, misrepresentation, and exaggeration of claims can occur and is investigated by loss control when deemed necessary.

Our past investigations have revealed:

• Pertinent facts that have been withheld
• Unreported witnesses
• Injuries that didn’t occur
• Misrepresentation of accidents
• Serious safety issues that need corrected

Loss control works with our agent’s and underwriters to find a coverage solution when risks or hazards have left school districts without a renewal option in their current plan of coverage.  Loss control’s organized approach to elimination of property hazards has helped districts secure coverage when other companies have declined the risk.
